I tried Reason...

Posted by heartless1298 - December 25th, 2008

And I failed epicly. I have no idea whatsoever how to use it or even where to begin using it. With FL I can open up a new project, open up Nexus, and start throwing down melodies.

With Reason, well I can't even find the more talked about synth "Thor", and that's really what I wanted to take a look at. There is a separate rack for all your mixers/effects/synths, instead of in FL they are just floating around. I'll probably read all the instructions over the holidays, but for now I'll keep trying at FL.

Merry Christmas!!!

I made an awesome song with my boyfriend on FL but i'm not allowed to put it up :(

How come?

Here it's really simple, well if you have a MIDI controller or keyboard it is... if you don't, I wouldn't bother with Reason, the Piano Roll on it is not that good :(

Anyway, here's what you do

1. Right-Click in the middle gray area and go to Create Instrument...

2. Select THOR Polysonic Synthesizer

3. If your making your own patch, then right-click and Initialize Patch, so it goes back to just being a factory patch

4. There you go, just start messing around with the synths and filters and such and just make a sound

When recording just highlight the Record button on your Note Lane for that instrument on the Sequencer, and then hit RECORD and play out

If you want a preset patch, go up to Create Instrument on the top of Reason

(Its under create? I don't have Reason with me right now)

And then just browse through the patches

Reason is pretty ridiculously easy to use, and the presets it comes with are very nicely done.

Not to mention it comes with 2 built-in samplers,

Peace!

Tank uu!! But I no got midi keyboard T_T

Kiss me bass. so i relistened to that song and i desided that the bass was perfect. i liked it and dont fix it.

i totally know what you mean by the bass reducing all the other parts of the song. what is actually happening here is that the bass is taking up frequencies up in the KHZ treble ranges and thats probably what you need to eq out. but im sure some things just wont happen. i have that problem with basses all the time. its all about aloting frequency space and keeping it there.

also. reason is not as hard as you think. i use it and it only took me about 2 months to start making my own synths effectivly and once you understand the layout of the program you realize just how easy it is.

reason cannot do anything but it seems you can do everything. nomater what it is besides audio stuff you can do just about everything you have ever heard, instrumentally, with reason.

but if i were you i would stick with F.L.

I'll try Reason eventually and thanks for the tip with the bass (I did realize that after a while XD).
